Meandering Mind of a Single Chicklet

My blog posts are about as regular as Halley’s Comet I know – so here I fly past again.

So what’s kept me away this time? Money I tell you!

I’ve decided to sell one of my businesses; sounds rather impressive, but it is a small business that has not been cost effective although I’ve really enjoyed being involved in that market sector. So there have been stock counts, figures, calculations and a whole lot more on my plate and on my mind.

So after my period of loss and mourning for my now soon to be ex-business – I’ve had to come up with something else that will not only keep me occupied, but more importantly will improve my bank balance.

It never ceases to amaze me how the Universe can guide us if we are open minded and in touch. So this what went down -

When I was going through my divorce in 2004 I sold my IT staff recruitment business because I was not coping very well with anything. As part of the sale I signed a restraint of trade for 4 years and I was quite happy to be out of it all and ready to try something very different. That resulted in the business that I’m selling now, and that change in focus and business environment really kept me busy and helped me heal. Of late I’ve been thinking of going back into the IT staff recruitment industry, but I’ve just let it lie on the back burner.

When I made the final decision to sell my existing business, I opened my mind and said ‘let whatever is intended for me come into my path.’ Well suddenly I started getting very stark prompters regarding IT recruitment:

A candidate placed years ago and who I have not heard from in years called me and asked if I’m still in the industry

An old recruitment business card of mine (the type of which I’ve not seen in years) fall out of a book that I took out of my bookcase

Someone that I met at a party ( & never seen before) began telling me that she is unhappy at her current job and asked me if I know of any good recruitment companies who specialise in IT

So then I started thinking ‘am I being told something here?’

Well, me being as I am, I decided that I should pay this some attention and I started looking around in the market place to see what’s been happening since my departure some 6 years ago. Not much changed I must say, and I became all excited and enthusiastic at the prospect of starting all over again. I have a friend who is really well skilled in IT and we are looking at a partnership – so here I am busy starting everything all over again.

One more prompter was that we need new offices because the offices that I currently have are not suitable for running a recruitment business. I asked the landlord if there were any offices available and he said that there weren’t and that all the existing leases extended well into the year. Damn – we’d have to move and I really like the office complex that we are in. Well, on Friday I was chatting to one of the other tenants when he told me in a very by the way manner that he had found new premises somewhere (can’t remember where) and that he would now have to try and get out of his lease. Well imagine my surprise – the offices that he has are perfect for out needs! That also solves his dilemma because we take over his offices in the next month or so, so there’s no need for him to do any wrangling and seeing as our lease was up at about the same time – no issues for us either because we just sign a new lease. Now if that’s not the Universes speaking to me then I’ll be darned!
